The 2023 Global Creative Awards South African Finalists– Presented by Kao Salon Division

The 2023 Global Creative Awards is a spectacular opportunity for our own industry stylists to show their creative talent and mastery on the world stage.

The South African Finalists are presented here with their inspiring artistic talent, as judged by the panel of our local judges on June 20th, 2023.

The finalists’ images have been submitted to Kao head office overseas where an international panel of judges will determine the Gold, Silver, Bronze winners of each country.

The Gold winners of each country plus their models will represent South Africa in the live finals in Chicago later this year.

Our South African judges were:

Craig Hopkins - Education Leader Kao Salon Division South Africa

Bernadine Bennie - Goldwell Guest Artist, multiple Global Creative Award South African winner and salon owner

Erika Rabie - KMS educator

Left Craig Hopkins Middle Bernadine Bennie Right Erika Rabie - KMS educator

Judging Criteria:

All entries are presented to the judges by number only, no names given, to ensure fairness and impartiality.

The jury guidelines were created to assist all jurors in maintaining the highest standard and to be objective when judging.

Creative Brief

Find your inspiration for creative color – it can be anything! Your inspiration can be anything you choose – no need to follow a specific trend. Your entry should show your creativity and technical ability with color. Color creativity, harmony, balance and placement – all things to consider when you are creating your perfect look. Think about creating something original – not a copy of something else! What can you imagine?

Judging Criteria - Entries will be judged in three main categories:

  • CREATIVITY AND ORIGINALITY – 40%

// originality

// creative use of color

  • TECHNICAL EXECUTION – 40%

// technical execution

// innovative use of color

// harmony of color, cut & style

  • TOTAL LOOK – 20%

// appearance of the overall look (hair, makeup and fashion)

// professionalism and aesthetic of model and photography

Create the perfect shape and express it through a technically excellent haircut. Your entry should show your creativity and technical ability in haircutting. Think about creating something original – not a copy of something else! What can you imagine?

Judging Criteria - Entries will be judged in three main categories:

  • CREATIVITY AND ORIGINALITY – 40%

// use of color to enhance cut

  • TECHNICAL EXECUTION – 40%

// technical execution

// harmony of cut, color & style

  • TOTAL LOOK – 20%

// appearance of the overall look (hair, makeup and fashion)

// professionalism and aesthetic of model and photography
