IF TIME IS MONEY, AND WE CAN'T ACTUALLY CONTROL TIME,
HOW THEN CAN WE MAKE TIME PRODUCE MORE MONEY?
One of our biggest problems is that we don't always recognise the value of TIME! We don't SELL time, we just give it away as clients ask for it.
Experience will tell you which months and which times of the month, which weeks, which days and which times of the day and week are most popular. These are often booked well in advance.
Once you have identified these 'PRIME' time slots try NOT to book them first. But rather suggest (SELL) time slots before and after PRIME times. The clients cannot see your appointment book and 8 out of 10 times will take your suggestion. This leaves the PRIME time slots still open closer to the day.
Another way of 'SELLING TIME' is to have a 2-tiered pricing system. When it's time to increase your services prices, as you should, only charge the higher prices Thursday to Sunday and leave Monday to Wednesday at the old prices. You are effectively offering your clients an early bird discount Mon to Wed. You will be surprised how many clients would be happy to enjoy your services AND save money.
Yet another way of SELLING TIME' is to make more of it. If demographics allows it (if it suits your clients) expand your trading hours to pick up the really early clients as well as those who might wants an early evening appointment. For this you would need buy-in from your staff and to work with a staff scheduler - so some staff start early and go earlier and other start later and work the late shift. This could be a win, win, win for clients, and staff, and the business as a whole
Scheduling staff working hours cannot be over-stated, particularly over busy periods such as month- ends, Christmas, Easter etc. It's crazy to turn away clients when short-staffed due to bad staff scheduling. Once again experience will tell you when you need to be fully staffed and when to work with skeleton staffing.
