It is with poignant sadness that Kao South Africa says farewell to Lesley Louw, the acclaimed and well esteemed Goldwell Regional Educator of 30 years’ dedication to the Hair Industry. We got the chance to hear from Lesley about her journey in a career she cherished.
I fell in love with the Fashion/Beauty industry as a teenager and happily served the 4-year apprenticeship required in those days. I was then able to open Salon Lesley in Pietermaritzburg for 11 fantastic years and proudly achieved membership with the prestigious Intercoiffure organisation.
After a brief break in the corporate world, managing a portfolio of shopping centres in KZN, I decided to chase my real passion and returned to the Hairdressing Industry I loved, joining Goldwell as an Educator for the KZN region. With Colin Etberg at the helm, it was a close “family” company which grew into the huge company it is today.
2010 saw a move to H/O Johannesburg to take up the position of National Technical Manager. This gave me the chance to grow a strong culture of Education and Knowledge and shared Creativity as well as amazing opportunities to travel abroad with Colorzoom and the Global Creative Awards.
Following that exciting period in my life, I returned to KZN as Kao South Africa Regional Educator, leaving Craig Hopkins to take over the role as Education Manager in Johannesburg.
My career of 30 years with Goldwell/KAO has been a wonderful experience, where I was able to combine my love of teaching and travel, and I believe we both benefited, with personal and Company growth.
To my dearest friends and members of the South African Hair Industry, I say not goodbye, just “Au revoir, Arrivederci, Adios, Tschuss, Totsiens, Hamba kahle” for now.
See you out there!
Love, Lesley
