Business Blog: Carpe Diem – Business Opportunities for the 4th Quarter of 2023

September 1 has come and gone and, in many ways, marks the countdown to the end of another trading year.

Traditionally, up to 60% of salon turnover is generated in the last four months of the year so it makes sense to optimise turnover for this period. Here are a few ideas that I have found to be very helpful.

  • Get your team motivated and in a festive summer spirit. 80% percent of a salon visit is the experience and happy salons attract happy shoppers.

  • With only so many weeks left before clients start going away for their holidays, plan appointments for your top clients between now and the end of the year. If you don't, some of those clients might end up spending the big bucks while elsewhere on holiday!

  • Staffing levels are very important in the build-up to the end of the year. Try to schedule most staff leave throughout the quieter times of the year, so the salon is fully staffed during the 'silly season'.

  • Start educating clients to avoid hair trauma before the harsh summer sun and holidays loom. If this is not part of your business ethos, i.e. hair care before all else, then there is never a better time to promote hair protection than summer.

  • Start promoting gift-giving ideas. This is very popular in beauty salons but not so in hair salons. If a regular and satisfied client wants to gift a friend or colleague with a haircare make-over, this is people power referring new business in action!

  • Stimulate retail sales by bonusing treatments for clients during the first two months of the new year. When selling home care for clients to protect their hair while on holiday, why not bonus complimentary basin treatments in January and February ready for your clients return to work? The least you will get is they pay for the blow but you will also get a happy client.

Right now is the time to plan your 4th Quarter for Success!
