Bargaining Council: Important RPL for Beauty Therapists & Trade Test Opportunities for Stylists



This month the Bargaining Council includes important info on:

Beauty Therapists: Recognition of Prior Learning Opportunity

The South African Association of Health and Skincare Professionals (SAAHSP), in partnership with the Services SETA, are offering a fully funded Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) opportunity for Beauty Therapist Professionals towards achieving their National Occupational Certificate: Beauty Therapist.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 3 years in a Beauty Therapist role

  • Proof of experience (e.g., references, work portfolio of evidence).

  • South African citizenship with a valid ID.

  • NQF Level 4 qualification (Matric).

  • Basic computer literacy (Advantageous).

 

There are limited spots available – 100 employed individuals will be selected per province for this opportunity.

 

 City & Guilds Hairdressing Certificate Holders - ARPL Trade Test Opportunity

The Services SETA partnered with accredited Trade Test Centres to offer an opportunity to City & Guilds Qualified Hairdressers who obtained their qualification during 2010 - 2023, to apply for an ARPL Trade Test to obtain the South African National Qualification.

 

 

 Sick Pay Fund: Maternity Benefit: Claim Period

Establishments are requested to take note and to inform their employees that Maternity Benefit claims under the Sick Pay Fund must be made after the birth of the child and within 90 days of the birth.

National Minimum Wage: Wage Schedules

The Wage Schedules have been adjusted to align with the National Minimum Wage amendments as per Notice No. R 5830 in Government Gazette No. 52053 dated 4 February 2025 and have been posted on the Council’s website. Please take note of the adjustments to the rates for learners.

 

Powers and Functions of Designated Agents

Designated Agents of a Bargaining Council are appointed by the Minister to promote, monitor and enforce compliance with any Collective Agreement concluded in that Council. A Designated Agent may secure compliance by, amongst others, conducting inspections and investigating complaints.

 

Agents have the power to:

  • Enter any workplace without notice to check for compliance with the agreement.

  • Request and collect information, either orally or in writing, and ask questions under oath.

  • Inspect records, ask questions about documents, and make copies or take documents for review.

  • Require individuals to produce or deliver records for inspection.

  • Examine equipment or materials at the workplace and ask questions about work performed.
