Let’s face facts, becoming an apprentice in the hair industry is not exactly the most glamorous prospect in the world! The job is filled with thoughts of sweeping floors, washing hair, cleaning colour bowls, making tea and a whole lot more mundane tasks that are not very exciting.
Whilst this is true, there is a rainbow at the end of the storm. At Gary Rom Hairdressing we do things differently.
After the initial interview process we invite you to spend some time in our salons to observe our culture, every salon or salon group runs differently, so before we employ you, we want you to feel part of the big picture. Once you have observed, and we like each other, we place you in one of our 11 salons countrywide.
You will be assigned to a stylist that will mentor and coach you every day while we work on clients. During this time every haircut, colour, technique is shared with you, thus slowly grooming you to be the very best that you can be.
You will spend 3 months with each stylist, changing stylists and growing daily in the workplace.
We also place you into a group with 5 or 6 other apprentices that are at the same level as you are, and provide private training at our head office, away from the salon, more focused and individual attention to detail.
We also provide you with a manual so that you can learn different haircuts, and provide you with salon trainers to teach and guide you. Once you have perfected your cutting skills, we provide you with grading dates 5 times a year, so that our head of trainers Jo, can assess whether you are able to master these cuts. The quicker you pass them, the quicker you start as a stylist!
We book no clients on Tuesdays between the hours of 4 and 6, so that you can practice these cuts.
That’s not all, we also teach you colour and highlight techniques, so that when you are ready to go on the floor you can start to earn a 5 figure salary.
If that does not excite you enough, every 2 years we have an internal competition, and if you win you are flown overseas for training!!
