When she won Miss South Africa, Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters’ hair was very dark. But by the time she won Miss Universe, it was a gorgeous, glowing, multifaceted honey blonde that drew the eye. Unquestionably, this was a winning colour that helped her stand out from the other contestants.
This colour change was the vision of talented Leandi Botes from Veaudry Salon, Fourways. Here is the story behind this incredible transformation.
“When Demi-Leigh first came to the salon after she had won Miss South Africa, we talked about her goals. At that stage her hair was very dark and I suggested going lighter. I said we would do it in stages so as to ensure optimal condition and also to keep the change gradual since she was in the public eye. Demi-Leigh’s hair is healthy and it grows very fast. It’s all real - she wears no extensions.
Original Colour: Dark
First: Leandi did a full head of balayage foils, and added natural colour with a colour shampoo for movement, dimension, and health.Smartbond was used to protect hair during bleaching.
Second: Demi-Leigh loved this and the following visit, Leandi completed the process, taking the blonde all the way to the root. She concocted her own recipe to tone it to a honey beige blonde.
Third: Just before the Miss Universe competition, Leandi added a few extra highlights for additional brightness.
Final Colour: Shimmering, multidimensional blonde
“I think the colour makes her!” Leandi says. “It was a privilege to work with Demi-Leigh; she is a beautiful person inside and out, and a true inspiration.”
Leandi sectioned the hair in a diamond shape so that it would look natural as it grew out.
Her toning recipe was: L’Oréal Professionnel Dialight – half 8, half 9.13, with a drop of 7.23 and 6-vol.
