“I am really passionate about creating beautiful hair”.
Why did you enter Goldwell Color Zoom Challenge this year?
Last year I had the honour of representing Goldwell South Africa at the Global Zoom event in Stockholm. Seeing the magnitude of this event and how invested Goldwell is in moving our industry forward, motivated me to the point that Color Zoom has become addictive. I am really passionate about creating beautiful hair, and Color Zoom offers the perfect platform to do just that.
What was the inspiration behind your medal-winning look?
My biggest inspiration from the In Flux trend was the strong, blunt cutting lines broken up by soft texture in the interior. With the colour, I wanted to create mystery by having a seamless blend of colours, almost like oil on water. With the overall fashion and make-up, I was going for a certain amount of androgyny.
What colours did you use and did you enjoy working with those brands?
For my look, I used Goldwell Elumen. What I love most about Elumen is the shine and vibrancy you get out of it. The next best thing about Elumen is just how endless the possibilities are – it’s like mixing a palette of paints.
What does it take to keep ahead of trends and be a trendsetting hairdresser?
My first advice on staying in the loop on the latest fashion, is attending Goldwell’s amazing seminars, because even the basics are essential in setting trends. Goldwell also offers more advanced trend seminars that give you the ultimate in cutting-edge training. Second to that, social media offers such a wonderful platform for stylists to share and teach each other the latest trends. Don’t be scared to apply everything you have learned in your everyday work to excite your clients and attract new ones.
Describe your hairdressing philosophy in one sentence.
You can never learn enough.
As a previous gold medallist, what do you expect from the international competition this year and what will your strategy be?
From what I saw last year, I am expecting my opponents to come with world class performance in terms of precision in application and tidiness in workspace. My game plan is to streamline my whole application to be as neat and focused as possible.

“Build your own pyramids and write your own hieroglyphics”
Why did you enter Goldwell Color Zoom Challenge this year?
I chose to enter because I feel Goldwell puts so much energy into the excitement of our industry globally, and there are always new techniques to learn every year, forcing hairdressers to evolve.
What was the inspiration behind your medal-winning look?
I always make sure I attend the Color Zoom seminars that Goldwell hosts. They give such insightful information and teach the techniques in-depth on the trend forecast presented. As for my inspiration, I had seen a picture of oil on water and decided to base my colour on a similar concept.
What colours did you use and did you enjoy working with those brands?
I used Elumen through the whole shape for this entry. The azure blue and slate grey were my favourite formulas in Elumen, from the In Flux colour formula booklet.
What does it take to keep ahead of trends and be a trendsetting hairdresser?
Education is where I always start, and I attend many different trainings from many different brands, empowering myself wherever I can. DNA Salon has been a great platform for me as the company always believes in empowering all staff to become the best they can be.
Describe your hairdressing philosophy in one sentence.
Build your own pyramids and write your own hieroglyphics – a quote from Kendrick Lamar. I apply this saying to all my creative hairdressing, because to be original and evolve is so important.

“I believe in setting your own trend and staying true to yourself”.
Why did you enter Goldwell Color Zoom Challenge this year?
It’s been a dream of mine to do competition work. I love challenging myself and gaining new experiences.
What was the inspiration behind your medal-winning look?
My interpretation of the In Flux collection was the Northern Lights as an inspiration. The bright lights flowing in the dark sky to me had the effect of fluidity, I loved the colours and the seamless flow between the colours.
What colours did you use and did you enjoy working with those brands?
I used Goldwell Elumen , TCC and Colorance. It is such a big range, and there is so much you can do with it. I especially like the Elumen. It is such a unique colour and there are so many benefits to it. It makes the hair so shiny, improves the condition of the hair, and there are no limits to what you can do with it.
What does it take to keep ahead of trends and be a trendsetting hairdresser?
I believe in setting your own trend and staying true to yourself and who you are. In this industry there are a lot of trends to follow which makes it easier but also harder to be a trendsetting hairdresser.
Describe your hairdressing philosophy in one sentence.
Inspired to exceed your expectations.
