Artistic director Tom Connell explains that “Variations On A Theme” began as an idea of a group of unusual characters in a seedy nicotine stained lounge bar, the type you see in old films. This initial concept led to the soft orange light he shot the collection in, which allowed him to push the hair ideas as far as he could. “I was interested in taking haircuts and hairdressings that shouldn’t work together, that are complete opposites and finding a way to make them fit,” he explains.
